Cantercel has as its theme: to conceive and bring to life new ways of living and community living for a viable, livable and enviable earth.

The site relies on an ecosystem type operation where complementary activities of hospitality, innovation and knowledge transmission and ‘ways of doing’ coexist.

It brings together majestic natural dwelling experiments with place-enhancing or place-fertilizing actions.

It facilitates the association of construction site training, awareness actions for the general public and professionals, training and events, with experiential stays with different degrees of comfort and autonomy.

Facilities and equipment

The ‘poegites,’ lived in all year round, are representative of the harmonious relationships between inside and outside, between intimacy and landscape.

The ‘village of experiences’ is seasonal, ecological and composed of atypical dwellings surrounded by nature constituted by regularly renewed light structures and forms part of 4-7 experimental modules each year.

Gardens contribute to the research of the fertilization of the context, permaculture and agroforestry.

Facilities of collective value to the place in terms of renewable energy and global water management (solar energy, wind power, wood fuel, biomass, rainwater harvesting and grey water recycling), sources of embellishment and resource self-sufficiency, demonstration to show their integration within the context.

A hierarchy of circulation routes: penetrations and distributions according to the frequentation and the discovery of the place (for heavy and light vehicles, bicycles, animals or pedestrian) or through natural heritage: botany, geology, fauna, landscape and heritage: agropastoralism knowledge acquisition.

An educational journey for visitors reveals the understanding of the landscape, building situations, ecoconstruction and ecotechniques via a museographical sequence along an open covered gallery linking the buildings, harvesting the rainwater, with innovative structures (timber, metal and canvas) and the support of energy production.
